The two friendlies against Argentina have played before big crowds in Melbourne and Canberra as 81,358 packed in to see their heroes across the two events.
On Friday night, 40,320 rolled up to Marvel Stadium for the first friendly, while 25,125 attended on a chilly Monday night at GIO Stadium. The Game in Canberra was sold out, and the highest womens sporting event ever held at the venue
The Matildas have an average venue capacity use of 90% for friendlies since the Olympic Qualifiers, and with no stadium having a capacity of less than 25,000. Thats not too bad at all. Womens Origin had an average venue capacity use of 53% this year (and with some poor weather), while the NRL season has an average use of 59% for the season.
Friday nights clash was up against both the AFL and NRL home and away seasons, and drawing a respectable 377,000 on Ten and TenPlay. The audience was well up on the previous free to air viewerships for Taiwan (239,000) and South Korea (293,000).
The the Matildas how have an average Friendly audience of 492,000 per match since their Olympic Qualifiers in February 2024. Their 7.33m World Cup Semi final average audience record remains unbeaten – no one has come close.
