27/7/24 – Saturday Sport Crowds & TV – NRLW R1, Olympic TV Ratings, AFL and NRL

In Round 20 of the AFL, Saturday started with a decent crowd in Hobart with the Kangaroos drawing 10,045 to Blundstone Arena for their match against the Cats. This gives the Kangaroos a home season average of 22,113 for the season, and a 2024 average of 6,705 at Blundstone Arena.

People First Stadium had its fourth sellout for the season and its highest ever crowd for the Qclash with 21,043 – beating the previous record by over 4,000. This gives the Suns a home average of 15,248 for the season, with an average of 17,406 on the Gold Coast.

The Saints and Bombres pulled a respectable crowd of 39,761 to Marvel Stadium. This gives the Saints a home average of 29,648 in 2024, while their average at Marvel Stadium in 2024 is 24,665.

The Demons pulled their lowest crowd in years to the MCG as 16,246 hid under shelter at the ground for their match against the Giants. Inclement weather, closed car parks, and the ski season being in full swing, all no doubt contributed. This gives the Demons a home average of 34,710 and an MCG average of 38,285.

Over to Perth, wheree Fremantle experienced its best ever crowd for the Western Derby, as 56,536 people packed into Optus Stadium for the match against West Coast. This takes Fremantles home average attendance to 46,304 for the season. (Its Optus Stadium average is the same).

Saturday Night AFL showed the Derby into Perth and the Demons/Giants game, for an average of 442,000 with a reach of 1.563 million. The is below the 482,000 average audience for the season, but the reach is almost dead on at an average of 1.562 million for the year.

NRL

In Round 21 of the NRL, the Broncos drew another 40,000+ attendance – their 7th for the year, with 42,213 turning up for their match against the Bulldogs. The Broncos currently average 40,710 at home for the season – all matches obviously at Suncorp Stadium.

Further North, and the Cowboys hosted the Sharks in front of 17,907 at QCB Stadium. The Cowboys have a home average of 18,685 this season in Townsville.

The late game saw 25,155 turn out to Allianz Stadium for the Sydney and Manly. The Roosters now have a season average of 23,240, and an Allianz Stadium average of 21,849 for the season.

NRLW

In Round 1 of the 2024 NRLW season, the Sharks drew 1,257 to its standalone clash with the Cowboys at Pointsbet Stadium. In Brisbane, the Broncos and Eels drew 10,382 to the Broncos double header at Suncorp.

Super Netball

The Vixens and Fever played off for a grand final berth in front of 8,058 at John Cain Arena.
