With the Bye rounds in progress, the round began in Brisbane on Friday night with the Lions taking on the Saints at the Gabba in front of a reasonable crowd of 27,445 – just ahead of their season average of 27,398.
The Friday night match was watched by an average FTA viewership of 541,000 with an reach of 1.838m. The season average on Seven is 623,000. On Kayo, the game rated 223,000 and reached 482,000.
There were three games on Saturday, beginning with the Western Bulldogs playing the Dockers with 21,796 in attendance at Marvel Stadium (well below their season average of 29,858, but on par for a smaller Melbourne team against a low non victorian draw).
The game was shown on FTA in WA only, and unfortunately theres no data available. On Kayo, the match rated 223,000 with a reach of 549,000.
The second game was a blockbuster as 92,311 crammed into the MCG form Dustin Martins 300th celebration while the Hawks looked on. The attendance boosted the average attendance for the Tigers to 49,995, and is the second highest drawing match this season after ANZAC Day. The MCG attendance average for the season is 62,554.
The Tigers/Hawks game was the highest rating match of the weekend on Kayo with an average audience of 370,000 – a season high – and a reach of 717,000.
The final game on the Saturday evening was a big event in Adelaide as the Swans took on the Crows at the Adelaide Oval in front of 41,535 fans. This took the Crows season average to 43,963 and the seasons attendance at Adelaide Oval to 42,020.
Saturday Night AFL rated 526,000 on Seven with a reach of 1.746m for the game. On Kayo, the game rated an average of 256,000 and a BVOD reach of 537,000.
Sunday featured 2 matches, beginning with the Kangaroos facing the Magpies at Marvel Stadium with 38,311 all unhappy with the umpiring for one reason or another. The attendance boosted the roos average to 24,031 for the season, and left the round with Marvel averaging 33,471 for the season.
The second game saw a fairly small crowd of 8,914 at Engie Stadium for the Giants and Power. Comparatively small for the AFL at least, there were several smaller crowds in Sydney in other codes over the weekend. The Giants now average 11,910 for the season and 11,483 at Engie Stadium.
