It was records all round for womens Rugby League last night as a record crowd AND a record television audience turned up for Game 2 of NRLW Origin 2024.
The game was played in front of 25,872 fans at Newcastles McDonald Jones Stadium, breaking the previous record held by Game 1 this year.
The talk on twitter was whether Origin would tip over the Matildas ratings on monday, but the Matildas held firm against a strong contender. The match was watched by an average audience on Nine of 1.068m (reach 2.217 million), just shy of the Matildas 1.095m (reach 2.620m) on Monday, with every expectation of more to come in Game 3.
NRLW Origin 2 was up 78% on Game 2 in 2023 and up 9% on Game 1 in 2024. (although it has only been exclusive to Nine in 2024)
On 9Now, Women’s State of Origin II recorded a BVOD audience of 166,000 – up 153% on Game 2 in 2023 and up 12% on Game 1 in 2024.
In Adelaide, the AFL’s Crows took on the Tigers in front of 37,342 at Adelaide Oval. The game was watched on the Seven network by an average of 569,000 viewers with a reach of 1.736 million.
