Big night for sports fans across the country, no matter your code of choice with AFL, NRL, Super Rugby, the Matildas and Series A teams all in action on Australian soil and on prime time TV.
In the AFL, the Pies hosted the Bulldogs in a rare home game at Marvel Stadium in front of 43,298. The match was the highest viewed sporting clash of the night (at least on FTA tv) as an average audience of 667,000 tuned in to the Seven network, with a reach of 1.881 million.
Friday night AFL on Seven has been watched by 7.617 million this season at an average of 635,000 with an average reach of 1.911 million.
On a cold and wet night in Adelaide, the Matildas took on the Chinese in front of 52,912 at Adelaide Oval. Over in Perth, The Series A teams AC Milan and AS Roma tangled in front of 56,522 at Optus Stadium.
Pre match we predicted that ratings for the Matildas would steamroll the others, however the Matildas match drew an average audience of 637,000 including a BVOD audience of 56,000 to the Ten Network with a reach of 1.552 million.
Since July last year the Matildas average 50,603 per game on Australian soil. Since the World Cup ended the Matildas have averaged 40,814 per game – due to 2 of those games being played at the 20,000 seat HBF Park in Perth.
Since the world cup ended Matildas tv audiences for matches on Ten have totalled 4.27m at an average of 711,000 per match. Last night was the lowest reported audience since 525,000 watched the Olympic Qualifying game against Iran in October.
In the NRL, the Knights played the Bulldogs at McDonald Jones Stadium with a crowd of 21,204. The match was watched by 509,000 (55,000 BVOD) and a reach of 1.302 million.
Friday Night NRL on Nine has been watched by 6.701 million at an average of 559,000 with an average reach of 1.314 million.
In the Super Rugby, Allianz Stadium has 12,018 front up for the Waratahs and Reds clash. Friday Super Rugby is not on Free to air television and no data is available.
