The Australian Financial Review has a report by Mark Di Stefano on Sportsbet and how the bookmaker used a shell company to shield involvement in an NRL Pick’em tipping competition, which skirted advertising regulations and promoted gambling offers.
Essentially, Sportsbet created a seperate shelf company to operate the competition which enabled them to get around advertising laws, including the gamble responsbly warnings required of betting companies.
