Its been another big weekend in Australian sport as the Cricket dominates all on television and we head into the final of the 2023 Origin series.
Attendances
In an Origin affected round with just 5 matches, attendances were 74,781 for the NRL in Round 17 at ana average of 15,056. The league is averaging 18,388 this season from a total of 2.592m for the year.
5,187,214 fans have attended Rounds 1-17 of the 2023 AFL season which is 60,267 more than the record-breaking season of 2019 (5,126,947). This is only the fourth time in history that cumulative attendance has surpassed five million by round 17. Friday night’s Western Bulldogs v Collingwood game at Marvel Stadium on Friday night was Bulldogs’ largest attended home game (43,482) since round 19, 2017.
For context this is more than the total of the current NRL season and the last BBL and A-league mens seasons – combined at 4.856m – you could probably add all the Super Rugby matches in there too.
