A-league

- Sydney FC have pulled off a major coup in securing platinum selling Australian artists The Rubens to play in a one-off performance at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) ahead of kick off in the Sky Blues’ home #SydneyDerby against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday 27 October (ko 7.50pm).
- Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced that 230,000 ALDI MiniRoos participants will be connected more than ever to the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League this season.
- Melbourne City FC will partner with SportsHosts this season, encouraging City fans to share their passion with people in Melbourne that are new to football as well as visitors from all over the world.
- Perth Glory have partnered with Workplace Law whose logo will feature on the front of the club’s Westfield W-League shorts this season.
Australian Football League
- The West Coast Eagles will field a stand-alone team in the WAFL next season after the WAFL Council of Presidents tonight voted in favour of the club’s inclusion in the local competition.
- The boss of the AFL Players’ Association Paul Marsh wouldn’t have a problem with elite footballers’ wages being made public similar to professional American sports leagues.
- City of Darebin councillors will next week vote whether to give up to $300,000 of ratepayer funds to the financially struggling Darebin Falcons.

Australian Rugby Union
- NSWRU boss Andrew Hore says there will be no Western Sydney team in the 2019 World Series rugby comp, due to difficulties involved with tight turnaround.
- NSW Rugby boss Andrew Hore this week presented a plan to the NSWRU board that outlined a raft of new measures slated to start in as little as a few months’ time, including a western Sydney competition for the under-15s and under-18s age groups, an under-18s Shute Shield competition, a new western Sydney office and a coach development manager, as well as a fundraising effort to bankroll it all.
- The Wallabies are set to play the All Blacks at Moore Park for the first time in 24 years when the new Allianz Stadium is re-built and back open for business in 2022.
National Rugby League
- The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have announced the signing of Ultimate Security Australia as their new back-of-jersey sponsor.
- Fans watching the 2018 NRL grand final on TV were exposed to more than three times as much alcohol advertising as those who watched the AFL grand final, according to analysis of the weekend’s coverage by a research group.
- There are renewed calls to ban all alcohol advertising across all Australian sporting codes after new data revealed how exposed viewers are to alcohol ads during games.
- Parramatta will have a reserve grade team back in the Intrust Super Premiership in 2020 as the Eels refocus their attention on becoming a strong development club. Severing ties with their NRL-feeder team Wentworthville Magpies after an amicable 10-year association to have an Eels presence in the ISP is one of the key recommendations from a two-month review of Parramatta’s football operations.
- The Canberra Raiders have announced the return of the under 20’s Raiders to the NSW Jersey Flegg competition next season, with Woden Valley Rams Premiership Coach Ash Barnes to lead the team.
Venues
- The new Sydney Football Stadium design includes a bronzed ribbon that bands around the stadium, which is intended to complement the sandstone podium on which the stadium will be built. The roof of the 45,000 seat stadium will consist of a series of shells, designed to concentrate noise back into the arena. “This stadium will kick [Queensland’s] Suncorp Stadium into reserve grade,” New South Wales Sports Minister Stuart Ayres said.
- Adelaide and Brisbane may see new inner-city indoor Arena’s capable of hosting sports and entertainment events in the not too distant future, although both projects are in the early stages.
International

- Financial fair play rules have killed off the dreams of small clubs hoping to win the biggest prizes in English football, Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said on Thursday.
- English soccer giants Manchester United have been named as the top club in Europe’s top five soccer leagues in terms of sponsorship revenue. United topped the club-by-club list, generating €269 million-a-year from 68 commercial deals
- Facebook has bought the television rights for the 2019-2022 Copa Libertadores , adding South America’s premier club competition to a growing list of football tournaments in their broadcast portfolio.
- There is no rush to elevate Tonga to tier-one status because the boss of the Rugby League International Federation believes there is no need for ”unnecessary demarkation”, and the current set-up is too ”colonial’‘.
