- THE Gold Coast Suns are lobbying the AFL to hold the women’s grand final at Metricon Stadium as a curtain raiser to the QClash. The Lions want the game to be played at the Gabba which would attract a large crowd but would come at considerable cost to the AFL because the tickets are free.
- BRISBANE want to play the AFLW grand final at the Gabba if the Lions earn hosting rights. Brisbane anticipates more than 15,000 would attend the grand final. The Lions have been told a decision on the Gabba’s availability will not be made until the surface is inspected once the stage and other temporary infrastructure from the Adele concert is packed up.
- The Advertiser reports on the lack of democracy at SA’s AFL clubs saying that lost in the transition of the Crows and Port Adelaide AFL sub-licences from SANFL control in 2014 is how the much-wanted independence delivered constitutions that put the AFL Commission and not the membership bases in charge of the SA-based AFL clubs. (Even though this was known by anyone who paid any attention to the details at the time – ed.)

- The FFA says restructure must come before expansion.
- Chinese property group Jia Yuan throw support behind possible new A-League team in southern Sydney. The club would split their home games between WIN Stadium, Shark Park and Jubilee Oval. The bid is fronted by Les Murray and Craig Foster.
- The Heraldsun notes that Football Federation Australia has so far failed to achieve any of its four-year strategic plan objectives, a year after they were announced.
- Foxsports notes that the Wollongong Wolves are still planning on entering A-League despite South Sydney bid being confirmed

- Melbourne owner Andrew Cox is confident the Rebels aren’t on the Super Rugby chopping block, saying the Australian Rugby Union can’t afford to cut them.
- The Telegraph reports that Television figures show a New Zealand derby outrated every game involving Australian teams on Australia’s Fox Sports last week.

- NORWOOD has continued the string of SANFL clubs reporting profits — in the Redlegs’ case $51,530 — but notes the challenge to remain financially strong in State league football is getting tougher.
- Glenelg Football Club makes $14,000 profit for 2016, rebounding from four years of losses
- South Adelaide Football Club reports financial loss for third straight year
- Sturt score club’s largest profit in its history. The club announced a $715,000 profit for 2016, bringing combined profits for the past three years to more than $1.2 million.
WAFL Club Financial Results
- Claremont have reported a loss of 178,000 for 2016 after a $50,000 loss in 2015.
- East Perth have reported a profit of $314,159 for the year ending 31st of October 2016.
- East Fremantle have reported a deficit of $34,937 after depreciation.
- South Fremantle have reported an after depreciation deficit of $12,197, compared to last year’s operating profit of
