A proposal to move Lions games to a new facility proposed for Springfield is being openly mocked by former players, supporters and administrators.
Graeme Downie, former Lions charman said they should never leave the Gabba.
Graeme Downie, who was chairman during Brisbane’s most successful era when the club won premierships in 2001-03, said the Lions must never leave the Gabba.
“I find it hard to believe the team would be better suited moving away from its heartland. They can’t do it,’’ he said.
“The ground is perfectly located. The Gabba is a stadium the Government has spent a lot of money upgrading and you would think the Government would be prepared to spend to continue upgrading into the future.
“We need people with vision but moving the Lions from the Gabba is not an acceptable answer.’’
